AutoCAD 2008 3D Modeling Workbook For Dummies (For Dummies (Computers)) ReviewYes it's a Dummy book and as such doesn't assume much on the reader's part so if you're already pretty advanced and up to date with AutoCAD 3D Modeling then save your money. On the other hand, if you only want or need to get up to speed on R2008's interface and 3D features, the 3D Modeling Workbook is probably just what you are looking for. It's not going to teach you how to create sophisticated, photo-real models but by the time you are finished you will know and be able to use virtually all of the commands and tools AutoCAD provides for 3D modeling. Add your talent and skill and you're good to go.
One warning: While the exercises are generally short and sweet, they are numerous so be prepared to spend a couple of hours on each chapter (23 total) as they are true substance of the book.AutoCAD 2008 3D Modeling Workbook For Dummies (For Dummies (Computers)) Overview

Macromedia Studio MX 2004 All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies ReviewMacromedia Studio MX All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies is definately a value-packed, thick, useful book. There is good reference material and getting-started info on Dreamweaver MX, Fireworks MX, Freehand 10, Macromedia Vlash MX, & Cold Fusion MX along with two sections on design basics and integration of studio components.
As I said, with such a breadth of information the book is definately a bargain. However, that advantage is also the book's primary downfall I feel. It says 7 books in one, but if that is true it is SEVEN SHORT BOOKS. Each book is definately not the standard "For Dummies" length. This lends itself to make it 7 abridged-sized books. The adbridgement comes by removing all of the discussion on the more advanced features of the program. Unfortunately the extreme basics are also belabored.
All of that means that the book will be useful to help you get started in Macromedia Studio, but after you have a little more than a few hours of experience in the software suite you will find the book increasingly useless. Because the features which a mildly seasoned user will find difficult to master are not covered, this book is not such a great value if the purchaser already has mild to moderate background experience with MX software.
So with that review in mind take it or leave according to your lot. If you are new to Macromedia Studio MX and want some help for the first month or so getting up and running, this is a great resource. But if you have already pushed through the growing pains of climbing the learning curve, you may want to pass on this one for a more advanced text.Macromedia Studio MX 2004 All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies Overview

Access Forms & Reports For Dummies ReviewFirst, it is important to realize what this book is not. It is not a complete Access reference book. It will not teach you database theory and all aspects of data normalization. It does not cover advanced techniques such as VBA programming, the ADO object model or using the Windows API.
So what do you get from this book? A fantastic introduction to developing forms, reports and queries. In the tradition of the Dummies series, the author gently guides the novice towards building expertise in this narrow but all important aspect of Microsoft Access. With a conversational style, each step in creating a report, form or query is clearly explained. Also, the reasons for creating a report or form, and the differences between the two are presented. Although the title doesn't mention queries, because they are integral to producing reports and forms, several chapters deal with queries. Finally, two chapters discuss enhancing queries with SQL and troubleshooting those queries when things go wrong.

Microsoft Access 2002 for Dummies ReviewEvery time Microsoft upgrades Access, I upgrade my Dummies reference.
I started out with Access 2.0, never having used a database; Dummies for 2.0 taught me how to work inside the complex world of queries and reports that they used at that job site.
When I changed jobs, I had Access 97 on my desktop, and my job description was to automate all the functions of the facilties and telecomm departments using it. I bought Dummies for 97, and built and deployed the seven interlinked department databases that they're STILL using at my old company to run those departmental functions.
At my new job, once again, I'm automating all the office functions, only this time I'm setting up to capture data off the web, learning data access pages, etc. We have 2002 here.
It doesn't matter how complicated a problem it is, I can always find how to START solving it somewhere in the simple language of Access for Dummies. And since I'm also teaching other people to work from the ground up in Access, Dummies is an invaluable resource for them to sit down and read, in clear, simple language, how this beast is supposed to work.

I didn't read it cover to cover straight, but I have now touched on all the chapters in the order I needed. Although I have been a MM user since way back, MindManager X5 has some very nifty enhancements. I didn't upgrade from MM2002 until I got the book and then I just let loose.
If you're new to MindManager, this will get you started and give you some neat tips. If you're a regular user, I would get this book when you upgrade to X5. Facebook and Twitter For Seniors For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech)) ReviewI consider myself to be well versed in Facebook and Twitter and the etiquette for both. What I am not capable of is explaining it to my parents. I got this book today, and it's the perfect tool to introduce seniors to the social web (sorry mom).
The chapters are well laid out, with great examples of lingo that I (as a heavy social media user) take for granted.
If your mom doesn't know a DM from a status update, just buy her this book. It's really terrific. Also, Marsha mentions that as we age we are less mobile. This could be very liberating for someone who can't get out as much as they'd like to.

Word 2003 For Dummies ReviewSeveral years back, probably more than ten, I read one of the "for Dummies" books. It's been so long ago, I don't even remember what the book was about, but I do remember that I was very disappointed in it. For that reason, I've always steered away from this series of books. However recently, I found myself in need of WORD 2003 FOR DUMMIES by Dan Gookin. I have to admit that I have been shocked by just how good this book is.
I'm not a techie person by any means, and that makes me perfect this book. It is written in easy to understand terms and takes otherwise complex issues down to their basic level of simplicity. So far, I have turned to this book maybe half a dozen times and in each case, have mastered the subject with little difficulty.
If you're like me, this may not be a book that you read through, but it is certainly one that you will reference as the need occurs. To that end, I am very satisfied with this book. I have certainly changed my mind about this series of books. I know different people write these books, but my first experience was so disappointing, I judged all of these books by their cover.

Developing eBay Business Tools For Dummies (For Dummies (Business & Personal Finance)) ReviewA significant proportion of this book is dedicated to producing well presented listings. Easy HTML for ebay does a far better job of covering the same ground. There are also alot of quick tips that are easy to apply (and have been better covered in books such as ebay hacks).
Most of the software packages on the CD are trial versions. Nothing innovative or new is included.
The descriptions of the ebay sandbox and API are very superficial - enough to get you started but little else. The chapter on office development tells you that "serious"
experience is required and little information is availible from the ebay development site and advises the reader to concentrate on PHP - not bad advice but it takes 7 pages to get there.
