AutoCAD 2009: One Step at a Time ReviewI tried a couple other autocad text books but found the easy-going style of this author to be unique. The text really is a one-step-at-a-time approach (as opposed to others who simply claimed to be) and the author knew when to laugh and when to slow down! He was also available by email when I ran into a problem - I doubt I'd have gotten that kind of support from others.
Best chapters: I really liked moving to color in Lessons 6 & 7, and grips in Lesson 12 were cool, but the house plan and piping plan we did between Lessons 13 and 21 really made me feel like I'd acomplished something. Then again, paper space in lessons 23 & 24 really brought it all home - how autocad is such a strong application.

Exploring AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 ReviewProf Sham Tickoo has written another great book. Exploring Map 3D 2011 book is very exciting and every time I read it I find out something new. This book helps me to find the answers to my question quick with little searching.
I am a professor using this book in our civil engineering class and our lab. I will recommend this book as it jumpstarts in Chapter 3 and covers more than a single assignment in one chapter. Further it goes into detail in the remaining chapters object classification, survey data analysis, and LiDAR data analysis. The Tutorials are accurate and drives you through every aspect of map analysis step by step.

AutoCAD 2006 For Dummies ReviewMiddlebrook writes in a deliberately breezy and informal style that is characteristic of the Dummies series. He explains the very latest 2006 version of AutoCAD. Necessarily, in an introductory book, he does not go very deep into the full extent of AutoCAD. But given just a minimal maths background on your part, you should be able to quickly lay out simple two and three dimensional objects using his advice. That maths mostly involves a good grasp of trigonometry and algebra.
If you are already familiar with the 2005 or earlier recent versions of AutoCAD, then avoid this book. You already know enough that you should get a more advanced text on 2006.AutoCAD 2006 For Dummies Overview

AutoCAD 2008 3D Modeling Workbook For Dummies (For Dummies (Computers)) ReviewYes it's a Dummy book and as such doesn't assume much on the reader's part so if you're already pretty advanced and up to date with AutoCAD 3D Modeling then save your money. On the other hand, if you only want or need to get up to speed on R2008's interface and 3D features, the 3D Modeling Workbook is probably just what you are looking for. It's not going to teach you how to create sophisticated, photo-real models but by the time you are finished you will know and be able to use virtually all of the commands and tools AutoCAD provides for 3D modeling. Add your talent and skill and you're good to go.
One warning: While the exercises are generally short and sweet, they are numerous so be prepared to spend a couple of hours on each chapter (23 total) as they are true substance of the book.AutoCAD 2008 3D Modeling Workbook For Dummies (For Dummies (Computers)) Overview

Exercise Workbook for Advanced Autocad 2008 (AutoCAD Exercise Workbooks) ReviewI have been looking for a good AutoCAD book for a while to refresh my skills. I learned AutoCAD 2000 in High School, but it has been a while since I have used the program and I needed a book to refresh my memory. I have looked at quite a few AutoCAD books and they are also reference books for the commands that do not have any practical exercises or examples.
This book is different. It has plenty of examples along with the commands which is much better for refreshing my memory of AutoCAD. It is also easy to follow, but not so easy to follow its boring or feels like it drags on too long.
So if you are new to AutoCAD or looking for a book to refresh your memory like I was, this is the book to buy and read.
Also, if you are truly a beginner, there is a beginner's book by the same author, which is excellent also. Learning Mastercam Mill X Step by Step in 2D ReviewThe material is worthwhile, but the editors have let down the authors on this text. I found too many errors to be excused. Errors focused on spelling and missing keystroke information.
Come on guys! Spelling errors are inexcusable these days! Key stroke sequence errors should have been fixed in the editing process.
I have worked with AutoCAD for 19 years, and I have been writing CNC programs for 8 years. I was able to deduce the correct keystroke information, but I think this would be a difficult (frustrating) text for the novice.Learning Mastercam Mill X Step by Step in 2D Overview

AutoCAD 2006: A Problem Solving Approach ReviewThis is a big book, approximately 1,340 pages. We adopted the book for three freshman drafting classes. The 2005 book was adopted last year. This is the first year that I taught using a book written by Sham Tickoo. It was a mistake. The size of the book has discouraged most students from using it. Once the students get past the size, they noticed that most of the information in the book, both; 2005 and 2006 was out of the AutoCAD help files. I wonder how the book can be published with this similar information?
The book is very wordy and it seems that the author wants to fill pages with AutoCAD help documents. Use the AutoCAD help documents and buy a different book.

The Illustrated AutoCAD 2008 Quick Reference (Illustrated AutoCAD Quick Reference) ReviewI purchased this book to supplement the textbooks required for my drafting classes at a local technical college. The textbooks required for the classes where all designed as tutorials and I wanted strictly a reference manual as a complement to these books to look up AutoCAD 2008 commands, aliases, etc. (especially aliases as I prefer using the keyboard for command entry as opposed to menus or toolbar buttons). This book has been all I expected it to be, and has been and continues to be a nice resource. I have been around PCs & PC software for a while now, and this book reminds me of the command reference manuals that used to come with PC software back in the day - a straight-forward, alphabetical listing of commands, each with all the available options, etc. listed.
Bottom-line is I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a command reference. Otherwise, if you are looking for a tutorial approach, look elsewhere. For mechanical drafting, I would recommend The AutoCAD 2008 Tutor for Engineering Graphics - this was the main textbook for two of my drafting classes.
