The Art of Naruto: Uzumaki ReviewKishimoto Masashi's /Naruto/ art book is just as it sounds: Another manga \ pictures from the creator art book. It's been done before. The only people who would probably appreciate it are art students interested in comics, or fans of the popular Naruto series. However, for those who do buy this book, well, it's beautiful, to say the very least.
The book separated into sections, each containing a poem or snippet I assume was written by Kishimoto-san. For the publishers, VIZ Media, what I praise most about this book is the fact that they left the original Japanese print that went along with some of the pictures and translated off to the side. For some, this might be a nuisance, but for a student of the language, it's a good way to test themselves.
Now, onto the book itself. Most of the pictures are cover spreads or pictures that have appeared on the cover of /Shonen Jump/ magazine. Thus, they have more than likely been seen by fans before. However, these pictures are uninterrupted by the text that goes on the covers of that magazine, and have - in the back of the book, sort of like the index - an explanation from Kishimoto-san himself explaining the thought processes and work that went into every picture. The art showcases pictures drawn up to volume twenty-four of the manga.
The extras include an interview with Kishimoto-san basically speaking more of the creation of Naruto and ideas he puts into motion. Also, there is a step-by-step feature of how to draw the front cover using the same tools as Kishimoto-san himself.
In the end, this book is a great buy for Naruto fans and those who want to learn from Kishimoto-san's style. Or for those who just respect the art. However, in the end, it was made for fans of the series, just as all manga art books are.The Art of Naruto: Uzumaki OverviewRelish Masashi Kishimoto's artwork in all its colorful glory in this new hardbound collection of images from the Naruto manga! Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and all your favorite characters appear in over a hundred pages of gorgeous full-color images. The book also includes an extensive interview with creator Masashi Kishimoto, step-by-step details on the process of creating a Naruto illustration, 20 pages of notes from the author about each image in the book and a beautiful double-sided poster!

Digital Art Masters: Vol 4 ReviewDigital Art Masters is a series of art books that feature the workflow of digital artists, both 3D modelers and painters. Having this book in hand is no different from looking over their shoulders while they work. It's a great opportunity to learn from the top artists (full list below) in the art industry.
In the fourth volume, we get to see new artists as well as returning artists with their new projects. If you're a frequent visitor to 3DTotal or CGSociety, you have probably seen their work. This book has 50 artists providing valuable insight into how they work, be it matte painting with Photoshop, 3D modeling with Maya or even digital sculpting with Zbrush.
All the illustrations featured have their workflow explained concisely, from conception, execution to post production. Included are multiple screenshots of their work in progress. Note, however, that this is not a step-by-step tutorial book that tells you which button to click on screen.
Although a lot of software titles are mentioned, the techniques used can be easily replicated in other similar softwares. For example, in the case of 3D workflow, commands like Extrude, Bevel, Chamfer or Cut are pretty much the same in 3D Studio Max, Maya or even the open source Blender. Techniques are also not tied to specific versions of software so the book is pretty timeless.
Plenty of art is featured in the galleries as well, making it a wonderful resource. There are different styles and genres, ranging from fantasy art, interior and exterior architecture, character designs, etc. There is something for everyone. At 288 pages, this book has a very satisfying thickness.
I would highly recommend it to 3D modelers, digital painting artists and art lovers.

CAD for Interiors Basics, with DVD ReviewThis book falls into an interesting balance for the user.
First, it takes the point of view that the interior designer has to be able to produce drawings to illustrate the buildings he is designing. In today's world that really means that the student has to use a computer assisted design package.
Second it accepts that AutoCAD is the default standard for CAD systems. The author also realizes that AutoCAD has become so big, so powerful and so all encompassing that while it can be used for almost any kind of design job there is a subset of its capabilities, 'the basics' if you will, that the interior designer will really need to know.
As such, he has presented a basic AutoCAD manual oriented to the interior designer. He uses terminology from the interior design world rather than something else like say the plumbing world. And second as the title of the book says, he teaches the basics, the core commands, of using AutoCAD. With this book you can get your interior design job completed. And if you need to know more you can go to a more advanced book.
The DVD included with the book consists primarily of video presentations that talk about and illustrate the functionality of these core commands.CAD for Interiors Basics, with DVD Overview

Dc Comics Guide to Coloring and Lettering Comics ReviewLETTERING:
Mr. Todd Klein is a seasond veteran in the field of comic book lettering and I've never seen a more concise, enagaging, and useful field guide on the subject of lettering in our industry. Along with the ABC's of computer lettering (pun intended), Mr. Klein pulls back the shroud of mystery on hand lettering; tools, tips and great advice. This is the most definitive text ever written on the subject, hands down.
COLORING:
As far as comic coloring is concerned, there are many places online to get the hard and fast techincal aspects of the trade, but the most important lessons Mark Chiarello gives the reader is color theory as it realtes to comics... How color evokes mood, how complimentary and muted tones can be used most effectively -- and perhaps the most important lesson in computer coloring: what NOT to do. The majority of examples in this section provide a sample of technique gone wrong as well as what to aim for. Another great lesson lost on most colorists is made a priority here: Let the art dictate the style of coloring.
I wish I'd had this book when I first started out. It will be kept in easy reach in my studio from now on!
