Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for Photographers ReviewI've been using Photoshop Elements 9: The Missing Manual and How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements 9 as guides to learning PE9. I purchased this book to complete my Elements library, lured by the appeal to photographers in its title. I've found this book to have some severe short comings compared to the other two books I'm using. Just one example: Dodging and burning are classic techniques used by the darkroom photographer. Elements has digital tools specifically designed for these processes. The only reference to these tools in Elements for Photographers is an indication that they exist in the tool bar. There is no description of how to use them; instead the book describes a very clumsy method for dodging and burning. The Missing Manual devotes three pages to these techniques and tools. The layout of this book is attractive and the workflow suggestions for accomplishing certain tasks are helpful. Overall though there seems to be too much space devoted to topics that could be covered in a few pages [forty-one pages set aside for info regarding sharing pictures on-line and the like?] and not enough space devoted to really mastering the tools in the program. Finally, finding text that read Elements 8 when the it should have read Elements 9 [a case of sloppy editing at best] did not inspire confidence.
