Using Microsoft Access 2010 ReviewI am an advanced MS Access user/programmer, so while this book turned out not to be useful for me, I am well qualified to review it for what it is - a solid book for people new to Access and relational databases in general.
The book covers all the bases and even discusses normalization, which is a method of optimizing the structure/layout of your tables for maximum efficiency. Believe me, I have seen rather large homegrown database applications built in Access that used a single table. That's a very poor practice for large applications. My point is that as you would expect, this book covers all the essentials in each area - enough to get your feet wet and then some. It also paves the way for more advanced studies in Access.
I have many books on Access and Allison Balter's advanced books are the ones I turn to more often than not. The quality work that she does is evident here, although as I said, it is for beginners.
There is a free web version of the book that supplements your learning with video and audio material.
If you're new to databases and you've decided to use Access 2010 - this is a good place to start.Using Microsoft Access 2010 Overview
