Microsoft Word 2010 Plain & Simple Review¶
With years of experience with older versions of Microsoft Word (my current employer will probably upgrade to Word 2010 a decade after I retire) I felt reasonably qualified to help a friend get a grip on her new Word 2010. I quickly discovered I was barely any help at all. "Well, to do that" I would confidently say, "you go to the...uh, where is that cursed menu?" This book arrived to save me from further embarrassment.
The combination of this book, plus the modern Word interface, makes operations once devilishly arcane, or hard to find, or hard to get just right, a snap. Placing graphics, using Word art, making symbols and arrows (shapes) are all now approachable and usable features even for relatively inexperienced users.
This book is so visually attractive that calling it "Plain & Simple" doesn't seem quite right. In fact, the book is so lavishly illustrated, I suspected it might turn out to be a bit too elementary. Nope. The book effectively gets to the most useful features and covers the most common word processing user scenarios quite thoroughly. It guides you quite painlessly into new territory, like using Building Blocks and Quick Parts to save labor. I appreciate that the wide-format book opens flat for self-study convenience.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone dipping their toes into the unfamiliar waters of Microsoft Press books that actually look beautiful.
